In a lates development, James Gyakye Quayson, the embattled Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North in the Central Region, has filed a writ at the High Court citing Minister of Trade and Industry, KT Hammond, for contempt.
This comes after an alleged interview granted by KT Hammond to a Kumasi-based television station where he reportedly proclaimed that Mr Gyakye Quayson will go to prison.
Lawyers of the Assin North Constituency believe that the comments made by KT Hammond are highly prejudicial and violate Mr Gyakye Quayson’s right to a fair trial.
In the writ, Counsel Justin Pwavra Teriwajah stated that the Minister of Trade and Industry is brazenly usurping the function of the trial judge and that the Court has the power to commit KT Hammond for contempt.
They are demanding that he be brought before the court to be tried for contempt of court and sentenced to prison if found guilty.
Mr Gyakye Quayson is currently standing trial for perjury after it emerged that he had filed his nomination for the 2020 elections despite holding dual citizenship.

The case continues to unfold and has caught the attention of many Ghanaians.
