A 20-year-old student from Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in the Northern Region has been detained after allegedly shooting a fellow student.

Reports indicate that Abubakari Abdul Majid was handed over to the police by the school authorities, led by Senior Housemaster Moses Amegatse.

Mr Majid is currently in custody and is cooperating with the police investigation. He has identified two other students—whose names have not yet been disclosed—as the owners of the gun used in the incident.

According to Mr Majid, he had taken the gun from one of these students and was posing for photos when it accidentally discharged, injuring 20-year-old Abdullah Abdul Somed.

Mr Somed, who was struck in the arm, is now receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

In connection with the incident, two additional students are being questioned. School authorities are working with the police to locate the other students involved and to recover the firearm.
