Ghanaians Praise Ato Forson For Doing What Ken Ofori-Atta Never Did

09 Mar

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson today concluded a productive engagement with market women, ‘kayayei’ (head porters), and other traders at Makola Market. The meeting, held ahead of the 2025 Budget presentation scheduled for Tuesday, 11th March, provided a platform for the minister to listen to the concerns and expectations of these key stakeholders in Ghana’s economy.

Dr. Forson described the interaction as a privilege, emphasizing the critical role these hardworking individuals play in sustaining the nation’s economic fabric. “It was a privilege to interact with these hardworking Ghanaians who break their backs daily to support our economy,” he stated, underscoring their invaluable contributions to the country’s commercial sector.

The discussions focused on pressing economic challenges faced by small-scale traders, including rising inflation, taxation issues, and limited access to credit. These concerns were shared openly, with traders expressing hope for policy interventions that could alleviate their struggles.

Dr. Forson assured the traders that their voices would not go unheard. He pledged that their input would be carefully considered in shaping policies for the upcoming budget, noting that their perspectives are essential in steering the country’s economic direction. “Their expectations ahead of Budget 2025 will help shape our shared future,” he affirmed.

After sharing photos of his engagement on X (formerly Twitter) many Ghanaians praised him for engaging with masses at the base, breaking the norm of politicians only engaging ordinary citizens during election times. Something former Finance Ministers under Akufo-Addo, Ken Ofori-Atta and Amin Adam never did.

The Finance Minister was encouraged by many to continue his good initiative and finding solutions to the economic challenges of the market traders, especially those who trade on the side of the roads.

Others also indicated with such style of leadership, the NPP will be kept in opposition for a very long time.

The engagement highlights the government’s commitment to inclusive policymaking, ensuring that the needs of grassroots economic actors are integrated into national fiscal planning. As the 2025 Budget presentation approaches, stakeholders await concrete measures that address the challenges raised by these vital contributors to Ghana’s economy.
