Ghanaian defender, Baba Rahman has landed on the list of players retained by Chelsea Football Club for the 2023-2024 season in the wake of the release of the English Premier League fixtures list for next season.
The 28-year-old was part of an extensive list of players on the retained list of the London club for the upcoming season, though French midfielder N’Golo Kante had an “offer tag” attached to his name on the list.
However, fellow French midfielder, Tiemoue Bakayoko landed on the departure list meaning the former Monaco player is now free to leave the club. During his tenure at the club, he scored three goals and and won the 2018 FA Cup.
Rahman’s contract with Chelsea is set to conclude at the end of the upcoming season but despite being retained by Chelsea, the former Greuther Furth player is expected to be loaned again.
The left full back played out his loan campaign in the just-ended season at Birmingham but the team suffered relegation from the English Championship to League One. Rahman played 20 games for Birmingham but missed extensive time to injuries and was not called up for the Black Stars’ 2023 AFCON qualifier against Madagascar on Sunday, June 18 at 14:00 GMT.
