Angry fans of Asante Kotoko destroyed seats and other equipment at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex during Sundays Ghana Premier League match against Nations FC. Porcupine Tertiary, Kotoko’s student wing of their support base, started throwing bottles of water and other objects unto the pitch in the second half of Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Abrankese.

The fans forced a 10 minute stoppage in additional time, throwing more object and destroying plastic seats at the venue in protest of a late penalty awarded by referee Latif Qadir.

After an intervention from Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum and the leadership of the club, order was restored, allowing the match to restart.

But shortly after Nations FC’s Amidou Diarra converted the penalty, violence resumed as the irate fans pelted anyone in sight with the plastic seats, bottles of water and anything they could lay their hands on.

The referee ended the match immediately and was escorted out of the pitch together with his assistants and the match commissioner, by the Police men on duty.

The Ghana Football Association, who have still not taken action against their security official who strangled a sports journalist, Seidu Adamu, is yet to comment on the matter.
