Whitney Adams, also known as Girl Boss, and her mother, Flavia Annang, have been accused of collaborating with scammers from Ghana to defraud elderly men in the United States.
The court documents, identified as case number 1:22-mj-01123, revealed that Whitney, who is based in Accra, is known for flaunting a lavish lifestyle on Snapchat, which includes frequent trips to luxurious destinations like Dubai.
The fraudulent activities reportedly took place between July 2018 and April 2022.
According to the court papers, victims were tricked into believing they were in a romantic relationship with someone who needed financial assistance to claim an inheritance.
One victim, aged 67, sent over $283,000 between 2018 and 2020, while another victim sent approximately $5,000,000 between 2015 and 2022 under the pretense of helping their online lover collect a non-existent gold inheritance worth $10,000,000.
The FBI document outlined how the scammers used fake online dating profiles to deceive their victims, mostly elderly men, into sending money for fake expenses related to the inheritance
Flavia Annang and Whitney Adams were reportedly based in Maryland and traveled to Ghana occasionally.
They managed several bank accounts to receive and transfer funds from the victims. Following their arrest, they are currently detained as their case is being heard in a Maryland court.
