Former President John Agyekum Kuffour has jumped in support of vice president Mahamadu Bawumia on the state of the economy.

Speaking on Asempa FM Ekosiisen show, Kuffour was asked if it was justified for Ghanaians to blame Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia for the current state of the economy. In his reply, former President John Agyekum Kuffour categorically stated that, it was not justifiable to blame Bawumia for the bad economy because he was not the president.

According to Kuffour, the state of affairs in relation to the economy rests on the president. The rest of the people around are only advisors. He said the advisors may advise the president, but he can only choose to accept it or reject it.

“I tell you, the manager is the president. The rest are advisors. If you advise the president and he doesn’t take it, that’s it”. He said.

He said the one cannot take the president’s blame to his advisors or deputies, re-echoing that accountability rest on the final decision maker, who is the president.

“You can’t take the presidents blame to his advisors or his deputies. The president is the owner of the country. He is the government. Bawumia was only the economic management team chairman, even though I am not saying it’s not an important role” former president Kuffour reiterated.

He advised Ghanaians to vote for Bawumia. If they vote and Bawumia fails, he can now be held accountable, but for now, he was only acting as an advisor.
