The Electoral Commission (EC), the elections management body, has taken a bold decision to enhance transparency in the crucial upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

As part of efforts to win the trust of Ghanaians ahead of the elections, the EC has announced that it will broadcast the upcoming Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting live on Tuesday, October 1.

The meeting is primarily to address issues the various political parties have raised about the voter register.

According to Accra-based Citi FM, the Electoral Commission has decided to allow Ghanaians to have first-hand information about development with the voter register which is fundamental to ensuring a transplant, free and fair elections.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) which has raised concerns about the credibility of the voters register had mounted pressure on the EC to broadcast the meeting for the sake of fairness.

But the elections management body insists that the decision is not in response to NDC’s demand, but a move aimed at deepening the democracy of the country.

Ghana heads to the polls for the ninth time on December 7. Polls in the country are reputed to be transparent, free and fair.
