A chilling incident of violence has rocked the small community of Silobela, an agricultural resettlement in Kwekwe District, leaving one man dead and another facing murder charges.
The tragedy unfolded on the night of 26 July, when a dispute over a local woman’s ‘sweetness’ or lack of it escalated into a fatal confrontation, highlighting the dangers of unchecked jealousy and the devastating consequences of violence.
The victim, 31-year-old Collious Ncube, was tragically stabbed to death by Thabani Dube (24), following a heated argument at Linda Business Centre, a popular spot in the Silobela district.
Midlands’s provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the grim details of the incident, painting a picture of a night that descended into chaos.
“On 26 July 2024 at about 9pm, the now deceased Collious Ncube and suspect Thabani Dube (24) both of Mthethethe village under Chief Malisa in Silobela were drinking beer at Linda Business Centre, Silobela,” he said.
The two men, seemingly friends or acquaintances, found themselves embroiled in a bitter dispute over a woman. The exact cause of their disagreement regarding their girlfriend is shrouded in mystery, but Inspector Mahoko confirmed that the argument quickly turned violent.
“Dube withdrew a knife from his trousers and stabbed Ncube all over the body until he became unconscious. He was rushed to Silobela District hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival,” he said.
The community of Silobela is left grappling with the aftermath of the tragedy, searching for answers and seeking solace in the face of a senseless loss of life, especially when two middle-aged friends fight over a girlfriend.
