The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has released the final certified voter register ahead of the December 7, 2024 general elections, confirming a total of 18,774,159 eligible voters. This announcement comes as part of the commission’s preparations for the highly anticipated election.
Of the 18.7 million voters, the majority—18,640,811 individuals—are biometrically registered.
According to a report by CNR,these voters will undergo biometric verification at polling stations on election day.
Additionally, 131,478 special voters, which include personnel from the security agencies, media, and EC officials, will cast their votes early due to their duties on election day.
However, a small group of voters—1,870 individuals—will face manual verification. These voters’ biometric data was corrupted, and as a result, they will be manually verified on election day.
The EC also addressed logistical concerns related to polling stations. Some polling stations have been closed either due to failure to meet the minimum voter threshold or at the request of local communities.
The voters affected by these closures have been reassigned to nearby stations to ensure their participation.
The EC emphasized that no Absent Voters List was created for these closed stations, but all voter records, including details of their reassignment, have been securely maintained within the Voter Management System for full accountability.
This comprehensive release of the voter register ensures transparency as Ghana approaches its pivotal 2024 elections, highlighting the EC’s efforts to maintain the integrity and accessibility of the electoral process.
