A 2-year-old toddler is currently fighting for his life at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a brutal attack by a mixed shepherd breed dog.
The attack resulted in severe injuries, including the tearing off of his buttocks and testicles.
In a heart-wrenching interview with TV3, the mother recounted the horrifying incident.
“I stepped into the washroom to ease myself, suddenly I heard my son cry. I initially thought it was because I had left his side, but when I rushed back, I found the dog attacking my baby inside a mosquito net where we were sleeping.”
Eugene Addo, an employee of the dog’s owner, who works as security, cook, and cleaner, among other duties, shared his account of the incident.
“I saw my child struggling with the dog, and I rushed to pick up my child. As I held him, I noticed the child had been badly wounded. His anus and testicles are all out.”
He adds that the dog’s owner has refused to take responsibility since the incident happened.
Doctors at the hospital described the extent of the injuries, stating that the child’s anus has been torn, and they would need skin to cover it.
However, they couldn’t assure that they would be able to fix the anus to control the discharge of feces.
This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for responsible pet ownership and measures to ensure the safety of young children in homes with dogs. The family and medical team are rallying around the toddler, hoping for his swift recovery amidst this harrowing ordeal.
