Closure of McDan terminal an attempt to sabotage Mahama’s swearing-in – Group

Pressure group, the Committee for Public Accountability, has criticized the closure of the McDan Aviation Private Jet Terminal, describing it as a deliberate attempt by the government to disrupt the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected President John Dramani Mahama.

The group claims the closure appears to be an effort to hinder the arrival of international dignitaries traveling by private jets, creating an impression of government interference.

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) shut down the McDan Aviation Private Jet Terminal over an alleged outstanding debt of over $3 million. The debt reportedly includes land leases, rentals, and terminal charges that had accumulated over time. Despite being given until Christmas to clear the arrears, the payments were reportedly not made.

McDan Aviation, however, has denied the debt allegations.

Speaking to journalists, Collins Amankwaah, Executive Chairman of the Committee for Public Accountability, described the terminal’s closure as a self-serving action by the government.

“How do you feel discomfort and discontent to see our fellow Ghanaian businesses flourishing? Why are we so wicked to each other? Why do we always want to undermine the very people that we’re supposed to support as people? What kind of people are we?

“Because of this, you shut down the only private terminal which complements the main terminal. Now we have an important event like the swearing-in of the president-elect. And I’m sure they know, GACL knows that foreign diplomats are coming and most of them will come with private jets, where are they going to land? Why are we doing this to ourselves? Won’t people think that it’s a clear sabotage as far as the event is concerned?”
