Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, a former Deputy Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, has expressed serious concerns regarding Ibrahim Mahama’s role in the transportation arrangements for President John Dramani Mahama. He warned that this involvement could jeopardize the president’s safety. Speaking on Okay FM on March 10, 2025, Korsah emphasized the need for vigilance concerning the president’s security, highlighting the responsibility of politicians to ensure his protection. “President Mahama’s life is at risk! As a politician of this land, I also have the oversight responsibility to ensure the safety of the president,” he said. He noted that while there may be a familial trust between the president and Ibrahim Mahama, it would be prudent for Ibrahim to limit his participation in official matters. Korsah’s remarks come in the wake of criticism from various quarters, including media personality Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah. He called for a parliamentary debate on the issue, stressing that the president’s safety must be prioritized. Ibrahim Mahama, a prominent businessman and the president’s brother, has made headlines for driving a bus with family members to the presidential inauguration and later transporting President Mahama in a state vehicle during a visit to assess damage from tidal waves in the Ketu South constituency. Such actions have raised eyebrows and led to concerns about informal family involvement in governmental affairs. Historically, attempts have been made to regulate government vehicle operations, such as the Transport Management System introduced by the Ministry of Health in 1993. However, there is currently no specific legislation governing who may drive the president outside of formal motorcades. The focus has primarily been on security logistics rather than the identity of the driver, provided they are cleared by the Presidential Security Detail. In light of these issues, Korsah is advocating for a parliamentary discussion aimed at potentially establishing regulations regarding transportation arrangements for the president.
