Ghana is gradually getting close to another major election in the country. This will be the ninth election the country is witnessing under the Fourth Republic. The key candidates of the election will be Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and Former President John Dramani Mahama. This will be the first time that the two are clashing in a major election. With the current economic situation in the country, many feel that the Mahama led National Democratic Congress stand a great chance at winning the elections. Mahamudu Bawumia however feels otherwise. According to Mahama, he is the next in line to transform the country.

Aside these two leading flagbearers, another thing to watch out for will be the running mate contest between Matthew Opoku Prempeh and Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang. Both served as education ministers and will now have to battle it out for who will become Ghana’s next vice president. This will be the second time that Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang is contesting to become vice president whereas NAPO is doing this for the first time.

Afia Pokuaa, a leading presenter and journalist has cautioned NAPO regarding those who advise and guide him. According to Afia Pokuaa, the people managing NAPO are novices who really have no experience in what a running mate needs to do. She cited a number of political blunders NAPO has made, with the latest being caught on camera dozing during Bawumia’s press engagement with the press.

The versatile journalist noted that the handlers of NAPO should have at least made NAPO to rest a day before the media engagement so he gets the strength to sit through the programme. She called on NAPO to sack all those handling him because they are not fit for the job. Afia asked NAPO to learn from Bawumia, Mahama and Naana Opoku Agyemang about the stress involved in campaigning and learn.

According to Afia, if NAPO fails to get proper handlers, he might end up being the reason why the NPP will lose the December elections.
