Blame the unfortunate events at the doorstep of Onua TV – Ras Mubarak

Leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ras Mubarak is of the firm view that the bloody clash in Obuasi must be placed at the doorstep of Onua TV.

To him, they allowed their platform to be used to incite violence.

Ras Mubarak is of the view that “We’ve come a long way and must not, in the name of free speech allow media houses to be used as vessels to incite violence. We can’t live in a country with such wanton indiscipline”.

Adding that “Thuggery and any other acts of lawlessness must have no place in the Ghana we all want. We sit aloof at our own peril”.

His views shared via social media read “Place the blame of the very unfortunate events in Obuasi squarely at the doorsteps of Onua TV which allowed its platform to be used to incite violence by one of its staff.

We’ve come a long way and must not, in the name of free speech allow media houses to be used as vessels to incite violence. We can’t live in a country with such wanton indiscipline.

Thuggery and any other acts of lawlessness must have no place in the Ghana we all want. We sit aloof at our own peril”.

Background

Concerns have been raised by a section of Ghanaians who believe that television personality Captain Smart may have incited the illegal miners who invaded the AngloGold Ashanti mine in Obuasi.

This comes on the back of a video circulating on social media when the morning show host was seen calling on the youth in the area to attack the mines and take what belongs to them.

“Ghanaian youth in Obuasi go to the mine. Attack the mine and take what you want so that when you get hungry, you get something to eat. AGA if you are not careful, we will take you out of this country. Can you create a cyanide hole in South Africa?

If not for bad leadership, how can these people do this in this country? This is what I want Nana Addo and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to understand: AGA is destroying Obuasi and the youth of Obuasi need to rise because if you don’t get some of the gold with time you’ll become impotent,” he said on Accra-based Onua TV.
