Bawumia Drops Revelation About NPP’s Defeat

25 Dec

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections, has described voter apathy as the primary reason behind the party’s significant loss, as reported by 3News.

He revealed that approximately two million party supporters abstained from voting on December 7, 2024, marking the NPP’s worst electoral outcome in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

Speaking at a meeting at his Accra residence on December 23, 2024, Dr. Bawumia expressed astonishment at the scale of the voter turnout deficit.

The gathering included committee chairpersons, vice chairpersons, and members involved in the election campaign.

“It was as if our people held a meeting across the country and decided they won’t go out to vote,” Dr. Bawumia remarked, reflecting on the lack of enthusiasm among NPP supporters despite the party’s comprehensive policy proposals.

The Vice President acknowledged the tireless efforts of the manifesto committee, commending their work in crafting a detailed policy document for the election.

He encouraged them not to view their efforts as wasted, emphasizing the value of their work for the future.

“I want to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to all of you for your dedication and hard work towards putting together such a comprehensive document, which we presented to Ghanaians,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized the need for the party to conduct an in-depth analysis of the election outcome to identify the reasons behind the widespread voter apathy.

He assured members that comprehensive research would be conducted as part of a broader reorganization process.

Despite the setback, Dr. Bawumia maintained optimism about the future, urging the manifesto committee members to remain steadfast. “God willing, we will all benefit from this document in the future,” he assured.

The meeting also included Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, chairperson of the Manifesto Committee, who joined in evaluating the party’s performance and charting the path forward.
