Tragedy struck in Dunkwa Kyekyerwere, Central Region, when Hon. Kwabena Boateng, a cocoa buyer and Assemblyman for Kyekyerwere East, shot and killed two individuals attempting to break into his cocoa-buying shop.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. yesterday, after Boateng had been on high alert following the theft of 35 bags of cocoa from his shop.
According to Boateng, he saw three suspects trying to break in and, upon realizing his presence, they attempted to escape. He fired in their direction, hitting two of the suspects, aged 16 and 20. One victim died at the scene, while the other succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. The third suspect escaped.
Boateng claimed he acted in self-defense, but his actions have raised questions about vigilantism and the use of deadly force. The Assemblyman has been arrested and is currently in police custody, assisting with the investigation. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many calling for calm and urging the authorities to ensure justice is served.
As the investigation unfolds, the motivations behind Boateng’s actions and the circumstances surrounding the shooting will be scrutinized. For now, two young lives have been lost, and a community is left to grapple with the consequences.
