According to Adomonline..Andy Appiah-Kubi, the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, has addressed recent claims regarding the discovery of 3,000 bags of fertilizers found in a warehouse at Agogo. The fertilizers were uncovered on Saturday, December 28, 2024, by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who identified themselves as part of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) taskforce. Their discovery sparked suspicions of potential wrongdoing, but the MP has provided clarity on the situation, offering an explanation for the fertilizers’ presence in the warehouse.
In an interview with Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen program, Andy Appiah-Kubi, a lawyer by profession, assured the public that the fertilizers were not being stored for illicit purposes. According to the MP, the fertilizers were intended for distribution to local farmers in his constituency. He further explained that the process of distributing the fertilizers had begun approximately two years ago, with the aim of supporting agricultural activities in the region. However, the distribution had to be temporarily halted due to the December 7, 2024, elections.
“The fertilizer is not for me. Over the years, we’ve been distributing it to farmers, and last year, we specifically targeted rice farmers. Along with the fertilizers, we also distributed weedicides, and these supplies are usually stored in the warehouse,” Appiah-Kubi clarified. He added that the distribution process had been delayed primarily due to a shortage of personnel, which led to a suspension of the program.
The MP went on to explain that some of the fertilizers were initially kept at the Assembly warehouse. However, he reported that a theft occurred, with some of the bags being stolen by unknown individuals. He stated that the matter was promptly reported to the police, and investigations into the incident were launched. As a result of the theft, Appiah-Kubi sought alternative storage by negotiating with the owner of a private warehouse for space to safely store the remaining stock.
Appiah-Kubi vehemently denied any suggestion that the fertilizers were being hoarded for resale or involved in any fraudulent activities. He emphasized that the fertilizers were meant to benefit the community and that local residents could attest to the legitimate nature of the distribution efforts. The MP reassured his constituents that there was no malfeasance involved and that the fertilizers were being kept securely for their intended purpose.
The clarification comes amid increasing political tensions, with the NDC’s accusations of corruption and misconduct being levied at the outgoing MP. Nonetheless, Appiah-Kubi’s explanation has sought to defuse any misunderstandings and reaffirm his commitment to supporting the agricultural sector in his constituency.
In conclusion, Andy Appiah-Kubi’s statement provides a clear response to the controversy surrounding the discovery of the fertilizers, urging the public to focus on the positive impact the distribution initiative aims to have on local farmers and the broader community.
