Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the General Overseer of Action Chapel International, has broken his silence regarding his decision to leave the Board of Trustees for the National Cathedral of Ghana. In a post shared by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on August 27, 2024, the renowned preacher stated that he resigned from the Board because he felt his presence was no longer necessary.
“I left the National Cathedral’s Board because I felt I couldn’t make a difference there,” Archbishop Duncan-Williams is quoted as saying. This is the first time he has publicly spoken about the decision.
The Archbishop, along with Rev. Eastwood Anaba, President of Eastwood Anaba Ministries, resigned from their positions as members of the Board of Trustees for the National Cathedral in October 2023. In a joint letter to the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the two influential church leaders expressed concerns about the transparency and accountability of the project.
They explained that, despite their prayers and hopes, there had not been an audit to restore public trust in the project. “Since January 2023, we have awaited news, to no avail, regarding the findings of the audit,” the statement said. This lack of response, they added, forced them to resign as a matter of “conscience and faith.”
However, the clergymen made it clear that their decision should not be seen as a challenge to the overall vision of the National Cathedral. Instead, they emphasized that their resignation was meant to encourage the project to move forward with integrity and public trust.
They concluded by saying, “We owe this to God and to our country.”
