According to the report by Adomonline today Saturday, in Tema, Ghana, a young girl with a bright future, 18-year-old Ama Asantewaa, was found dead in her home in Tema Central after going missing for several days.
Ama, who recently scored 5As in the 2024 WASSCE exams, was discovered in a decomposing state inside her family’s house on Wednesday morning.
According to reports, Ama was last seen on Sunday evening by neighbors. Her family had traveled for a funeral in another town, leaving her alone in the house.
When they returned on Wednesday, they were met with a terrible smell coming from one of the rooms. Upon entering, they found Ama’s lifeless body on the floor, already decomposing.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” said her mother, Mrs. Akosua Asantewaa, as she wept uncontrollably.
“She was full of life, always studying hard, and had big dreams of becoming a doctor.”
Police officers arrived at the scene and quickly sealed off the area for investigations.
They confirmed that Ama had been murdered but are yet to determine the exact cause of death. Preliminary examinations suggest she may have been strangled, as there were marks around her neck. Her body was sent to the morgue for an autopsy.
“This is a tragic incident, and we will not rest until we find out who did this,” said Inspector Kwesi Boateng from the Tema Police Command.
“We urge anyone with information to come forward.”
Ama was a student at Tema Secondary School and had worked hard to achieve excellent results in her WASSCE exams. Her teachers and classmates described her as intelligent, kind, and ambitious.
She had dreams of attending medical school and helping the sick in her community.
Residents of Tema Central are in shock, with many calling for better security in the area.
“How can such a terrible thing happen to such a brilliant girl?” said a neighbor, Mr. Samuel Ofori.
“This is heartbreaking. We need justice.”
The police have started questioning people in the neighborhood and are following up on leads to catch the suspect.
The family is pleading with authorities to ensure that the killers are brought to justice.
“We have lost a precious soul,” said Ama’s father, Mr. Kofi Asantewaa.
“She had a bright future, and now she’s gone. We need answers.”
