The Adansihene, Opagyakotwere Bonsra Afriyie II, has issued a stern warning to Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) and Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Adansi area who fail to recognize his authority.
He declared that any such individuals would not be welcomed in his palace during this year’s political campaign season.
Speaking during his 10th-anniversary celebration as Adansihene at Fomena in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region, Opagyakotwere Bonsra Afriyie II expressed displeasure with the conduct of some political leaders who, despite holding office in Adansi, have neglected to show respect for his position.
In an interview with Adom News correspondent Isaac K. Normanyo, the Adansihene shared his frustration over MPs and DCEs who disregarded his invitations to the palace.
While he acknowledged that he could not prevent them from campaigning in Adansi, he stressed that no such individuals should lead the Vice President or other government officials to his palace for political purposes this year.
He added that while he is not personally affected, it is important for development in the region to continue.
The Adansihene also recounted the history of electoral violence in the Adansi traditional area, which has resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, including chiefs.
He emphasized that he does not wish to see a repeat of such violence and urged politicians to be cautious in their campaign rhetoric.
The traditional leader’s comments serve as a reminder for political figures to respect the authority of traditional rulers and to conduct their campaigns responsibly.
