Scammers in Ghana are using a new trick to steal money from people’s mobile money accounts. They send a small amount of money, like ¢20, to your account. Then, when you check your balance and enter your pin, they use that chance to get your pin and access your account.
The scammers have already hacked their account and are waiting for the pin to be entered. Once the victim checks their balance and enters their pin, the scammers use this opportunity to steal the pin and gain full access to the account.
To stay safe, be careful when you get unexpected money in your account. Don’t check your balance or enter your pin unless you have to. If you need to check your balance, call your mobile money company’s customer service instead. Remember, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
