39 Arrested, Including Students and Women, in Osiem Over Major Drug Crackdown

09 Mar

The Eastern Regional Police Command has launched a major crackdown on drug-related activities in Osiem, leading to the arrest of 39 individuals, including students and women.

According to authorities, the operation targeted hotspots known for illicit drug peddling, aiming to curb the rising influence of narcotics in the community. The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

Law enforcement officials have reiterated their commitment to dismantling drug networks and ensuring public safety. Residents are urged to cooperate with authorities and report any suspicious activities.

This operation, aimed at curbing the drug trade in the region, has sparked mixed reactions from the public.

Many believe the focus should be on dismantling the supply chain rather than just arresting street-level peddlers. Francis Atigre, a concerned citizen, stated, “We should be looking at those who import such substances, get them punished, and for those addicts, be rehabilitated to live more purposefully.”

Similarly, Patty Adjo Geh argued, “They should rather be arresting those who import and smuggle the drugs into the country before going after the guys peddling it.”

Others have even raised concerns about alleged police protection of drug hubs. Kwesi Peter commented, “Kindly visit Tarkwa for me so I can show you ghettos where such drugs are sold, which the police over here are protecting.”
