A Senior Research fellow in Public Sector Economics, Dr George Domfeh, has stated that it will be difficult for the New Patriotic Party(NPP) to poll 76% votes in the Ashanti region in the 2024 election on Saturday, December 7.
However, Dr Domfeh has predicted the NPP stands a chance to obtain 70% votes in their stronghold.
Dr Domfeh made the remarks on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Friday in connection with a survey conducted by the Institute of Progressive Governance (IPG).
He asserted that the evolving political landscape other factors will make it difficult for the party to reach this goal.
“Some people who had said they won’t vote are now even actively campaigning so if that should happen and people vote for the NPP, they may get 70% votes. They suffered a dip but maybe Bawumia’s return to the region has redefined the situation.
“At the time of the survey, they had 61% votes and 15% of the electorate were undecided so even if all these people decide to vote for the NPP, they can obtain 70% but it will be difficult for theThe NPP particularly its Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is optimistic they will secure 85% of the votes.
Generally, the survey projected that if elections were held between October 15 and November 15, the NPP would have won with 50.2%.
The research also showed that NDC flagbearer, John Mahama would have garnered 47.3% in the elections while the other presidential candidates collectively would have got 2.5%.
According to the survey, regions likely to be won by the NDC are Greater Accra, Western North, Upper East, Upper West, Savannah, Volta, Oti, Bono East and Northern.
The NPP would have also won North East, Bono, Ahafo, Western, Central, Eastern and Ashanti regions if elections were being held within the times the research was conducted.
